What we do

Laboratory Receiving is composed of the smiling faces you see when you enter the front lobby of the VDL and the smiling faces in the room behind the front desk who receive all the samples that are shipped there. All submissions to the VDL need to go through Laboratory Receiving first. Laboratory Receiving staff unpack and evaluate all the samples and submission forms received, assign them a specific case number for tracking purposes, and route them to the appropriate lab(s) for processing and testing. If there are any submission discrepancies with the samples or submission forms, Laboratory Receiving staff are the first to reach out to a client to get clarification. This is also where diagnostic specimens are prepared and packaged for shipment to other laboratories.
