What we do
The Serology Section of the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory develops and uses validated serological assays to detect antibodies as indicators for infectious diseases in production animals, companion animals, and zoo species. This is accomplished by using different antibody detection assays e.g. ELISA, serum neutralization test, agar gel immunodiffusion, hemagglutination inhibition, indirect fluorescent antibody assay, agglutination tests, and fluorescence polarization assays. These tests are performed on serum/oral fluid samples submitted to the VDL. In some cases, tests are also performed for detection of antigen by ELISA.
