Update to UMN VDL Summary Result Reporting Format

December 15, 2022

On January 3rd, 2023 there will be a change to the display formatting of Summary results on the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory Results Access web portal and in nightly Summary emails, if Summary emails are activated for your client account.

Currently, the Summary results are displayed as a zero count Positive out of the count of procedures performed if there are no positive results on the case (e.g. "0/3 POS"), or the count of Positive results, in red, out of the count of procedures performed if there are positive results on the case (e.g. "2/3 POS"). Due to the potential for confusion about Negative-only results with the current Summary display formatting, we will be updating the Summary display format to only reference "Positive" for procedures with Positive results.

The new formatting will continue to display the count of Positive results in red and first in the order of display. However, procedures without Positive results will no longer display any reference to POS. Procedures with only Negative results will display a count of Negative results (e.g. "3/3 NEG"). Procedures with a mix of results will order the counts to display Positive counts first in red, Suspect counts second in blue, Negative counts third in black, and informational results last in black.

Please contact the UMN VDL with any questions or concerns about this change that you might have. We can be reached by email ([email protected]) or by phone (612-625-8787).
