Full Mastitis Culture & Identification (Mycoplasma not included)
Minimum of 2 ml milk each sample in a tube 1/4 to 3/4 full. Recommend quarter milk samples only. Freeze samples immediately after collecting. Samples must remain cold, preferably frozen during shipping. See Best Practice: Milk Samples (link) for detailed instructions on sample collection.
This test is used to identify the pathogen causing clinical or subclinical mastitis. For more information, see " Interpreting Culture Results from Quarter Milk Samples" and LUH Pathogen Factsheets.
Results reported: The LUH will report up to two organisms isolated from samples submitted for Full Mastitis Culture; if three or more organisms are found, the results will be reported as “Contaminated.” Organisms will be identified with the MALDI-TOF or other procedures as appropriate.
