Laboratory Pasteurization Count (LPC)
Minimum of 6 ml milk each sample in a tube 1/4 to 3/4 full. Freeze samples immediately after collection. Samples must remain cold, preferably frozen. Refer to Best Practice: Milk Samples (link) for detailed instructions on how to collect a bulk milk sample.
This test is used to quantify the number of bacteria that survive pasteurization temperatures, as an indicator of milk quality. It may be combined with other differential bacteria counts (See Milk Bacteria Troubleshooting Panel Option 1 and 2) ) to aid in investigation of elevated bulk milk bacteria counts.
Results reported: cfu/ml. Speciation available by request.
