What we do
The Sequencing Research and Development Laboratory (SRDL) at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UMN-VDL) is a specialized next-generation sequencing (NGS) facility that leverages both short-read (Illumina and AVITI) and long-read (Oxford Nanopore) technologies for animal diagnostic applications.
The lab offers comprehensive expertise in nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, and bioinformatics. It accepts a wide range of sample types for shotgun metagenomics, 16S rRNA sequencing, and whole genome sequencing of viral and bacterial pathogens.
Bioinformatics services include species identification, species abundance profiling, multilocus sequence typing (MLST), serotyping, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and virulence gene profiling, pan-genome analysis, and phylogenetic analysis. Custom analytical methods can be developed to meet specific project needs.
