Standard/Total Plate Count (SPC/TPC)

This test is used to quantify the total number of aerobic bacteria, as an indicator of milk quality. It may be combined with other differential bacteria counts (See Milk Bacteria Troubleshooting Panel Option 1 and 2) ) to aid in investigation of elevated bulk milk bacteria counts.

Pre-incubation (PI)

This test is used to quantify the number of bacteria that thrive at moderate temperatures, such as when milk cooling is inadequate, as an indicator of milk quality. It may be combined with other differential bacteria counts (See Milk Bacteria Troubleshooting Panel Option 1 and 2) ) to aid in investigation of elevated bulk milk bacteria counts.

Results reported: cfu/ml. Speciation available by request.

Mycoplasma Culture Only (Individual Cow Milk or Bulk Milk)

Description

This test is used to screen samples for the presence of Mycoplasma species, a contagious and incurable mastitis pathogen.

If requested, the lab will pool individual samples (specify 5 or 10 per pool) for Mycoplasma screening. A pooling fee of $2.08 will be applied to each pool. When samples are pooled, the original samples will be kept refrigerated until the pooled result is available. Individual samples from a positive pool are automatically tested and charged the individual fee of $5.72 per sample in the pool.

Laboratory Pasteurization Count (LPC)
