Necropsy/General Exam of Tissue - Poultry

The Necropsy/General Tissue Examination fee includes Gross and Microscopic examination, Immunohistochemistry, Bacteriology, Molecular diagnostics, Virology, and Parasitology in addition to carcass disposal. Any or all of these tests will be selected at the discretion of the diagnostician (e.g. not all tests will apply/be performed depending on the case).

Please note that in circumstances where tissues/bodies from multiple flocks are submitted under one accession, a necropsy fee will be billed for each pooled flock workup performed within that one accession. Samples/bodies from separate flocks are evaluated separately. If you would like to submit multiple identified flocks for one pooled workup under one accession, please indicate that only one pooled workup is needed on the submission form.
Each pooled workup will have 3-5 birds or tissue sets examined grossly, with a subset of those examined grossly being selected for individual cultures of samples pertinent to the clinical syndrome and pooled histopathology and ancillary diagnostics. Submission of > 5 birds per flock/pooled unit will still be accepted but the diagnostician will select only up to 5 to include for workup. The selection is typically made based on the severity of lesions and preservation of the tissues/bodies.

If ancillary or outsourced testing (e.g. reovirus PCR/isolation) is anticipated or requested at the time of submission, please submit extra tissues to account for those allotted for this testing.

Outsourced testing will be charged at cost. (plus shipping fees)
