This test is currently only available with approval of the Minnesota Board of Animal Health. Please submit an adequate sample volume if additional tests are being requested.
We use Illumina technology and aim for at least 1 million reads per sample. However, we cannot guarantee the success of NGS procedures as this technique is the unbiased amplification of all nucleic acids in the sample. The number of reads for a pathogen of interest may not be sufficient to produce a full genome. In those instances, a draft genome may be produced and additional sequencing may be necessary to fill in gaps in the genome. Additional sequencing options and costs will be discussed if needed.
We use Illumina technology. Analysis will include whole genome assembly, annotation, comparison with vaccine and reference sequences, recombinant/reassortment analysis, and dendrograms.
Submit a fastq file for analysis. Bacterial analysis includes de novo assembly, multi-locus sequence typing (MLST), antibiotic resistance gene screening, virulence gene screening, pangenome comparison, SNPs and pangenome based dendrograms. Specific analysis such as serotyping can be performed based on needs. Viral analysis includes whole genome assembly, annotation, comparison with vaccine and reference sequences, recombinant/reassortment analysis, and dendrograms.

For disease investigation when RNA viruses are suspected. Some DNA viruses may be identified as well, but are not the focus of this procedure. If investigation of both RNA and DNA pathogens is desired, please consider our Metagenomic service.

Note: A bacterial culture will be performed first and billed to the client for any external samples submitted for sequencing
Available for bacterial isolates only. We use Illumina technology and aim for 30-50x coverage depth of the bacterial genome. Analysis includes de novo assembly, multi-locus sequence typing (MLST), antibiotic resistance gene screening, virulence gene screening, pangenome comparison, SNPs and pangenome based dendrograms. Specific analysis such as serotyping can be performed based on needs.
Following the guidelines listed under the Submitted Specimen Requirements will provide an adequate sample volume to conduct this test. If multiple tests are to be requested on a specimen, there may not be adequate sample volume to perform each test. Please submit an adequate sample volume to meet the requirements of each test.
